This year we are excited to bring more health care solutions to you at Thuja Wellness! Our team is expanding and we’ve now included massage therapy, chiropractic, and Pilates to our services to treat you with a whole-body approach to care. 

We’ve found through our patient’s experience, as well as our own, that a single-care approach to pain management isn’t always effective. For instance, if you slipped a disk, you may notice you’re walking differently to compensate for the pain. This can affect other areas of your physical and psychological wellness, which requires you to modify your daily routine as you heal.

Dr. Jane Peterson, Chiropractor

Dr. Jane was first introduced to chiropractic after suffering from a low back injury while playing NCAA Division 1 volleyball in Mississippi. She was amazed by how the team’s chiropractor helped her heal from her injury so she could play pain-free again. 

She then set out to learn more about Chiropractic and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She’s been providing chiropractic treatments in Winnipeg (her hometown) and Vancouver for people of all ages including newborns, adolescents, adults, athletes, and pregnant women. 

For Dr. Jane, learning doesn’t end when you get the job. She actively seeks out opportunities to enhance her skills so she can provide better care using the latest techniques. She is certified in the Webster Technique, the Graston Technique® (an instrument-assisted manual therapy technique to help decrease scar tissue and muscle adhesions), and RockTape (a functional movement Kinesio-taping certification that is beneficial for reducing pain and inflammation as well as aiding in posture correction).

In her spare time, Dr. Jane enjoys volleyball, hiking, spin classes, trying new workout classes, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Jane is excited to join the Thuja Wellness team.

Marla Waal, Pilates Instructor

Marla Pilates Thuja Wellness

Movement is a big part of Marla Waal’s life. She’s our new Pilates instructor at Thuja. Marla was a professional dancer and is trained in classical ballet and several other styles. She’s travelled the globe performing and teaching. In 1998 she began to study yoga, from the extremely gentle restorative to more vigorous Ashtanga. Today, she’s certified in 12 different types of yoga.

She studied Pilates with Diane Miller, Dynamic Anatomy with Eric Franklin, ELDOA™ Method created by French Osteopath Guy VOYER, DO and more recently Buteyko Breathing created by Russian Doctor Konstantin Buteyko. With certifications in each of these, Marla is one of the few Level 4 ELDOA™ Trainers in Canada.

Marla is passionate about helping people feel free and strong in their bodies by educating them through practice and by sharing these tools in a way that promotes independence.

Kirsten Graham, Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)

Thuja Wellness New Member RMT

Kirsten Graham is a great addition to our RMT team. She combines the core principles of massage therapy with traditional Swedish techniques and knowledge of alternative modalities to achieve results for her patients.

She is a self-care advocate and self-proclaimed massage connoisseur who views massage therapy as the most valuable tool in her healing toolbox.
