What is Physiotherapy?

The female body goes through many physiological changes during pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum recovery. The body recovers differently with a natural birth compared to a cesarean birth. Therefore, maintaining physical strength and flexibility prior to and during pregnancy is essential for an easier birth and a faster recovery. Research suggests, women who seek physiotherapy treatment to strengthen core stabilising muscles and pelvic floor are more likely to prevent pregnancy related lower back pain and postpartum urinary incontinence after birth.

It is imperative that sporting or work related injuries, regardless of how minor or severe they are, get rehabilited correctly to prevent reoccuring injuires. Once an injury like an ankle sprain for example, has occurred, the body heals it as fast as possible. This healng mechanism is efficient. However, the healing mechanism leaves the joint, muscle, tendon or ligament weakened allowing the original injury to reoccur.
