Pregnancy and Fertility

Creating a new life can be wonderful yet challenging. The topic of fertility is not just about babies. It’s about having a thriving reproductive system. That’s what we do at Thuja Wellness, we help your reproductive system thrive so it’s prepared and ready for conception, birth and postpartum recovery.

Fertility

Fertility issues are becoming more common. There are two umbrella terms for infertility Explained (medical explanation) & Unexplained Infertility (no medical explanation). The most common medical reasons for infertility are Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome & Fibroids. The most common reasons for unexplained infertility are stress, hormone imbalances, congested immune system, structural misalignments of the pelvis, pelvic organs & ligament strains. At Thuja Wellness, we aim to enhance fertility for both women & men. We achieve this by reducing stress & anxiety, assessing & balancing your hormones & promoting blood flow filled with nutrients & oxygen to your reproductive organs. Our practitioners are compassionate, positive and provide a range of treatment options.

Ovulation

Ovulation problems are another common issue for women who are trying to conceive. The ovaries may not produce a mature egg or any egg at all. Irregular periods, overly light or heavy periods & premenstrual syndrome are symptoms of ovulation issues.

The biggest issue we face is that many women do not know when they ovulate. The female body has a succinct regulation of hormones that stimulates ovulation & shows physical signs at particular times of the month, determining the fertile window & ovulation. Every women is different & has a different menstrual cycle. Not all women ovulate on day 14. We provide you with the tools you need, to learn how your cycle works & to pin point exactly when you are ovulating.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POS)

Women who have POS are unable to develop healthy ovarian follicles to release healthy eggs. This is caused by an extreme hormonal imbalance that creates inconsistent ovulation patterns. Obvious signs of POS are excessive facial hair, acne & excessive weight gain. Naturopathic Medicine combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) have been scientifically proven to balance the hormones that cause POS.

Endometriosis

This condition is where the lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium, grows outside of the uterus. This can cause extremely painful, debilitating pelvic pain & menstrual cramps. Some women may have endometriosis & do not experience any pain. Naturopathic Medicine & TCM are both effective forms of treatment to help alleviate these symptoms. Our TCM Doctors & Naturopathic Physicians work together to formulate the best treatment strategies.

Fibroids

Are benign tumors that can grow inside or outside the uterus. These tumors can prevent an embyro from implanting in the uterus. Symptoms include excessive mentrual bleeding, irregular mentrual cycle, pelvic pain/cramps, anemia & fatigue.

Anxiety & Stress

Plays a very large role in fertility. Women put a lot of pressure in themselves and when they haven’t become pregnant as fast as they were expecting to stress and anxiety builds up. When the body is under long term anxiety, stress hormones produced by the adrenal glands get overused. This causes an imbalance of reproductive hormones that are extremely important for baby making. Even the slightest imbalance can prevent a pregnancy. Our team of compassionate, warm & positive practitioners will help reduce stress caused by anxiety.

Sperm Deficiencies

For men, having a low sperm count or slow motility are two reasons that may contribute to fertility issues. Having your sperm checked is extremely important, particularly if you have been actively trying to conceive for longer than 12 months.

Pregnancy & Birth Preparation

We always hope every pregnancy is perfect and all expecting mothers, breeze through their pregnancy feeling great. Unfortunately, for most women this is not the case. A women’s body changes dramatically during pregnancy, allowing space for an embryo to grow into a baby. During this time an array of physiological & structural changes occur. This can lower the immune system, create structural aches & pain & puts stress on the body. In addition, emotional worry over labour & birth can cause anxiety and stress. Our team are experienced in dealing with common pregnancy issues & we provide reassurance when you need it most. Some of the common ailments a women will experience are:

Morning Sickness

There is no known reason why some women have morning sickness & others don’t. One theory is a higher surge in the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Hormone. At Thuja Wellness we have medication free therapies that can help to reduce morning sickness symptoms, so you can enjoy your pregnancy.

Fatigue

Changes is hormones can lead to a lack of energy. Quite often women can feel excessively hot, faint & lightheaded. Similarly, a vitamin or mineral deficiency can also cause fatigue & energy loss. It is important to determine a vitamin or mineral deficiency as soon as possible. Making sure your body has the right amount of nutrients is extremely important while your baby is growing. Our Naturopathic Doctor will recommend the appropriate tests to remedy all hormonal imbalances and nutritional deficiencies.

Lower Back & Hip Pain

Lower back & hip pain are the most common structural ailments that an expecting mother will experience while she is pregnant. This is typically caused by the hormone relaxin. This hormone makes the ligaments stretch, allowing the pelvis to open & prepare for labour. Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, TCM and Massage Therapy have been scientifically proven to relieve pregnancy related back pain. Our team are experts in this field & will provide alignment techniques and exercises to relieve aches & pains to prepare your body for birth.

Migraines & Tension Headaches

Many women who have never experienced migraines before do during pregnancy. Migraines during pregnancy are mostly triggered by an increase in progesterone. However, similar to Tension Headaches, Migraines can also be triggered by anxiety & stress. Your job, money, relationships, fear of labour & birth are all stressors. When stress builds up, the muscles in the very base of the skull get restricted & tight creating tension which develops into a headache. Tension Headaches can then progress into migraines.

Postpartum Recovery

The time after a baby is born is incredibly exciting for new parents and you may find yourself running on oxytocin for a while. However, there are some issues you may face once it wears off. Your body has done something amazing, but that prolonged exertion of growing a baby & then giving birth can cause some problems you may need to deal with.
